Xcel Energy is celebrating Pride Week along with communities in Minnesota, Colorado and Texas. The company is a longtime supporter for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender employees. A group of employees formed the Supportive Association for GLBT Employees (SAGE) in 1991 to encourage the company to offer domestic partner benefits – which it did in 1995 making it one of the first companies of its size to do so. The following year, Xcel Energy was among 100 companies chosen by Business Ethics Magazine as one of the best corporate citizens in the country, partially due to our support for GLBT employees.
Xcel Energy’s Corporate Diversity and HR organizations consult with SAGE members regarding employee issues involving GLBT employees or customers. They consult with SAGE on diversity training, Xcel Energy Foundation support, benefits administration and GLBT family issues. You can learn more about our diversity hiring practices on our website. ).
Recognition of Xcel Energy’s diversity and inclusion for the GLBT community continues today as the company received a score of 90 on the Human Rights Coalition’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), in 2015.
The CEI is the national benchmarking tool that tracks corporate policies and practices pertinent to GLBT employees. Xcel Energy’s score reflects our leadership in supporting GLBT employees in both the energy industry and the country. The CEI criteria serve as a road map for major U.S. businesses’ adoption of inclusive policies, practices and benefits for GLBT employees. Launched in 2002, the CEI is the nationally recognized benchmarking report for businesses to gauge their level of workplace inclusion against competitors.
Xcel Energy is pleased with our exceptional CEI ranking but know more work can be done. We hope to achieve a score of 100 when the 2017 report is released.
Xcel Energy is pleased and proud to play a role in creating a more inclusive society. We’ll be at our local Pride events in Amarillo, Boulder or Minneapolis. Please stop by the Xcel Energy booth to say hello.
