To be very specific, Xcel Energy (NYSE: XEL) is a major U.S. electricity and natural gas company with regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. Xcel Energy provides a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to 3.4 million electricity customers and 1.9 million natural gas customers through its regulated operating companies. But if we break it down, what that means is that we know quite a bit about energy. And we have what you might call a “passion” for looking at energy and energy use in new ways—like renewables. So, we started this blog to share our thoughts, ideas and perspectives around energy, but most importantly to engage with other people who feel just as strongly about it as we do. We hand picked our bloggers for their keen insights, understanding of the business and their flat-out “energy” for all things energy related.

We’re sure you’ll notice our editorial bent towards renewable energy and energy efficiency—while we still provide energy based on older technologies and materials, like coal, to keep up with demand, we are so excited about the future of energy (and Xcel Energy’s role within it), that we thought we’d stick mostly with the new stuff. There’s so much going on in renewables and energy efficiency that we know we’ll never have a shortage of things to post about.
